Milling

The milling of medical products is also one of the most important metalworking operations very frequently used in the process of their manufacturing. Its essence is directly opposed to the lathe turning – a rotary multiple-cutting-edge tool (milling cutter) is brought to fastened immovable blank in order to remove (shear) a layer of metal so as to form the slots, grooves, shoulders, and sites in the areas regardless of the axis of symmetry of a piece part being processed.Milling

The milling may be performed with the tools of two types:

cylindrical mill cutter, which cutting edges locate on the lateral cylindrical surface of mill cutter, with its axis being parallel to the plane in process;

• face-milling cutters, which cutting edges locate both on its face and on its cylindrical surface, with its axis being parallel (or at an angle) to the plane in process.

When manufacturing the medical products of prosthetic nature, the main scope of milling processing of their blanks is the formation of sites, planes, and edge lines on the implants, abutments, healing abutments, transfers, and other prosthetic components in order to assure usage of surgical instruments for work with them as well as for the individualization of shape (geometry) of prosthetic product at the concrete place of its installation.

At our ABM Technology Plant, the milling processing of implants and suprastructures is carried out on multipurpose high-precision Tsugami S206 CNC machines. A capability for carrying out the milling operations is a part of their wide functionality with the processing precision being assured falling within the range of 0.1 micron. At the same time, the wide technological capabilities of our manufacturing area are maintained by way of permanent renewal and expansion of available assortment of milling cutters.
